Proved Genuine

I started reading through 1 Peter today and 3 verses in God is Doing Work on me.  Check it.

1 Peter 3-7: What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you’ll have it all—life healed and whole.  I know how great this makes you feel, even though you have to put up with every kind of aggravation in the meantime. Pure gold put in the fire comes out of it proved pure; genuine faith put through this suffering comes out proved genuine. When Jesus wraps this all up, it’s your faith, not your gold, that God will have on display as evidence of his victory. (The Message)

I want my faith to be PROVED GENUINE.  But the only way for that to happen is to have it go through suffering.

The next time you are suffereing remember this:

  • One day you will be with Christ
  • Until that day you WILL experience aggravation, hard times, suffering, etc…..
  • However, it is through suffering that our FAITH is PROVED GENUINE
  • A PROVED GENUINE faith will be displayed for all to see

Do you want your faith to be PROVED GENUINE?  If yes, get ready for the fire/suffering!  Get it!

LU Online Ad

I know what your thinking…….is that Matt Cote?  Sure is.  Carter Wingfield (above) works for LU and took the shots for the ad.  Carter and his wife Megan are Small Group Leaders in College Life @ Brentwood and are AMAZING Leaders!

Side Note…….I’m about to graduate with my MAR from LU.  I took all my classes online…….so I’m buying what I’m selling.

My blogging Nemesis Nic Carver tweeted this picture with the caption: “Thinking about graduate work because this guy makes it look so gorgeous”.

Meet Greg Wright

This past Saturday (10/16) after going through SCAREMARE with our COLLIDE students I decided to hit up Mcdonald’s for a late night treat.

I’m sitting at a table enjoying a McFlurry with:  Adam Pavao, Nick Cope, Bethany Hayes, and Mark Bassie.

Then something crazy happens.  Greg Wright sits down at our table.  Let me introduce you to Gary:

  • He smells of alcohol
  • He is missing most of his teeth
  • He is rambling about his girlfriend
  • He hasn’t taken a shower is a LONG time
  • He is homeless
  • He is asking for change

What would you do?  Seriously……….what would you do?

James 2:14-17 says:

What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.  NIV

How about now…….what would you do?

We took Greg to Walmart and bought him:

  • sleeping bag
  • propane stove
  • propane bottles
  • lantern
  • batteries
  • coffee
  • water
  • backpack
  • cooking pan
  • and a coffee from Mcdonald’s

Who paid for all that?  Everyone at that table.  We all invested time (2 hours) and money ($100).  We prayed with Greg and invited him to Brentwood.  We told him we would pay for his taxi so he could get to church.  I’m praying he shows up one day!

I’m REALLY proud of everyone who was at that table that night.  I’m proud of their hearts and their willingness to act.  I think our faith was ALIVE, not DEAD.

What would you do?
